Question:
I used an osmena pearl to make a ring which turned out really pretty but somehow I put a scratch on it. Is there something that I can put on the pearl to cover the scratch up.
Answer:
Ouch! Hate it when something like this happens. Unfortunately there is no way to remove a scratch from a pearl. If this ring is for you, you could use a pearl nail polish to cover the scratch and wear it proudly as a sample of your work, but if it is for sale, I am sorry to tell you that you really should replace the pearl.

I had that happen to me while making a necklace, so I just took a very small faceted gemstone and used a tiny drop of E6000 and glued it to the face covering the mar and making a unique necklace for myself. A Happy accident.=D
pearls and osmena pearls are made up of layers of nacre. The nacre is usually thick enough to be able to polish a shallow scratch off. I have polished scratches on pearls using my buffing machine or flexshaft and muslin buff with a bit of Zam polish. I’d bet this would also work on the osmena pearl. I hope this person didn’t discard the pearl as it may very well have been able to be saved with a little polishing.
