Daily Wire Tip May 6: How to Wrap a Broken Cabochon
Daily Wire Jewelry Making Tip
May 06, 2010
Question:
While finishing wrapping a cabochon the very side edge of the stone broke off. Is there any way I can still wrap this stone and cover the raw edge, and what would I use?
Answer:
Depending on the length and width of the fracture, it could be hidden by incorporating a beaded wire into the frame, running along the chipped edge, and tied into the bail wrap; or use the second wire down from the top of the frame while wrapping, add beads to it and then put it back into the main frame. Either way, I am sure the piece will turn out nicely.

Thanks Dale. I think I will add beads. Should I glue the broken piece back on? If yes, what kind of glue?
You could try adhering the broken piece back, but it will eventually break again, which may cause the customer to question your work, and depending on the type of stone, some will not take an epoxy well. I would leave it alone.
