Question:
Dale, how do I know how much to adjust measurements and wire when the stone is not the same size or shape when following one of your patterns? I don’t have a stone the size you recommend in your pattern.

Answer:
Hi Becky, because I do not want folks to have to buy special stones, all of my patterns come with a Formula. Simply measure your stone and then follow the formula requirements for measuring and cutting the proper length of wire.

Well, I;m sure your answer is sufficent for people who have your CDs and follow them. But I’m also sure there are many of us reading these tips that do not own any of your class lessons that referr to your formula for estimating length of wires. Could you possibly repeat it here.
DeLane, this question was specifically regarding a DVD project, so it wouldn’t make any sense to post that formula without the DVD! Individual projects come with their own individual formulas. These formulas are the reason Dale’s DVDs and instructions are so valuable.
However, if you’d like an example of a formula, please visit this Free Pattern, Easy Agate Anklet, and look under “Materials” for the amount of chain specified: Distance around ankle + 1/2 inch – length of bead combination = total length of chain needed. Stone dimensions are treated similarly, and the formulas work great!

You see that is what makes Dale’s patterns and instructions a step above others…her formulas. It is also the way she earns her living, by working out all the instructions and formulas needed and presenting them in a teaching dvd. It is from her techniques that one can learn to reconfigure a pattern and make adjustments as needed when a different stone is being used as opposed to the one in the directions.
