Question:
In our jewelry business, I am the one that creates the jewelry, and my wife’s the one that wears and sells the jewelry. In one of your videos, you show a pair of round nose pliers with marks on them. You select the second mark to make a wrap around them, enabling you to make a hanger loop of different sizes. My question is: what is the measurement of each one of those lines? I liked how they worked and how uniform they were, mine are not. Thank you.

Answer:
Actually John, the marks on my pliers have no real formula (yes, strange for me to say). I simply used a fine point marker to mark the jaw of my round nose pliers where I used them all the time. Because the marks will not remain for long, I then scored the marks in with the edge of a square diamond file.
My suggestion for you is to mark your tool where you think you’d like, and experiment with loop sizes using scrap wire. When you are happy with the results, score those jaws! And you will be happily making consistent loops and round shapes, too.

That tip from Dale has been a life saver when it comes to making wrapped headpins and such. That was one of the first things I learned from her and my pliers are marked with 4 scored lines so I can do very small on up to an extra large loop without problems.
My first mark was at 2mm width. The others were added up and down from that mark.
