This week’s tool: Revere 4-Plier Set, #PLR-180.98

Video by Kate, JewelryTools.com

This week’s featured tool from JewelryTools.com is the PLR-180.98 Revere Plier Set. Alan Revere, a master goldsmith, founded the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, located in San Francisco, California, in 1979. He has been designing jewelry courses and jewelry tools for professional jewelry artist for decades, and today’s featured tool is completely designed by the master goldsmith himself.

The Revere Set of 4 Pliers comes with the wooden base shown, and is made from high-quality carbon tool steel. The jaws are hand-finished with beveled corners by expert craftsmen in Germany.

You may notice that there are no springs; this is by design, for extreme accuracy; keep your middle or forefinger tucked between the jaws to carefully open the jaws. The handles have no plastic to allow you complete control.

The Revere Plier set includes 4 pliers:

  • Chain nose pliers
  • Round nose pliers
  • Flat nose pliers
  • Flat/Half round pliers

I’m sure the Revere tools are great. However, my old, arthritic hands would much rather have the box joint and spring to work with. Just holding the two pliers that I have that do not have spring closures is really a chore for me. Gimme my spring closure. But, no foam handles, please.

I have to agree with DeLane. I too suffer with such severe arthritis, that the only way I can continue making jewelry, is with the padded handles. Take care of your hands while you are young or suffer the consequences. :(

My old arthritic hands prefer the ergonomic handles on the Lindstroms. To each his own, but I can’t use non-cushioned grips any more.

I think I already found a gift for my brother for his birthday. He loves handy tools like these.
