Wire Jewelry Tip July 11: Pantone`s Fall 2012 Color Forecast

The hot summer sun may be beating down on us as we work on our wire jewelry (preferably in the shade with good air conditioning) but it`s not too early to be designing jewelry for fall. Of course, while some people are talented at putting colors together on their own, and others stick to tried-and-true combinations, several of us enjoy looking at what the fashion world is doing (or at least, is predicted to be doing) and play along at home with those trends.

Pantone, one of the biggest names in color (I think of it as the grown-up Crayola) actually employs people to sit and watch runway trends in order to predict what colors will be `hot` the next season. What a nice job – and we get to reap the benefits, getting to make jewelry that coordinates with the clothes out there on the rack.

Here`s the palette `forecast` for fall, which includes the 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango. Despite orange being so-not-my-color, I`m amazed by how many complementary colors look good with Tangerine Tango:

Palette from Pantone; and yes, there is a complementary Men`s Palette.

The colors may look a little wild, but I think I`ve found some pieces that would work:

Susan

Susan Burch`s Cross My Heart Wire Pendant, created for the 2012 Druzy Contest, matches up perfectly with Pink Flambe and Honey Gold.

Kathy

Kathy Schreiner`s Druzy Pendant has Bright Chartreuse and Honey Gold working together beautifully (also a 2012 Druzy Contest Entry)

Llewellyn

Llewellyn Alspach`s unique agate cabochon pendant combines Rose Smoke, Titanium, and Honey Gold.

This palette reminds me a little of earth tones-meets-the-80s. What do you think? (Remember, no outfit or jewelry piece needs to have all 10 colors!) Will you be making jewelry to fit this coming season, or stick with the tried-and-true?

Rose, thanks so very much for the color forecast! I have been keeping up with them for several years and depend on them for future jwelry shows. I also keep the past sheets because a lot of women do not get rid of last year’s fashions, and will need colors to go with those, too. Now I need to find next year’s colors somewhere.

You are very welcome, DeLane! That’s very thoughtful to keep the past few year’s colors, too! :)

Thank you for the remind to begin making fall jewelry. I hadn’t looked at the pantone color scheme yet. I always make it the background picture on my computer to keep me inspired.

I think I was ahead of the color scheme with my January and May submissions to the February Art Bead Scene monthly challenge that used bright chartreuse. (photos are on my blog: attorneyangelalundlogan.blogspot.com).

I make a lot of my own pendants with clay and also I do wirework.Lately been making all my own clasps from sterling silver and a lot of plated metal also. The clasps are very original and I have a lot of fun designing them.I try to use all the colors that seem to be popular but also use a lot of my personal glaze favorites.

What a wonderful Idea to show what colors ahead of the season. I will definately start buying along those color lines so my jewelry does not get out dated.

    Thank for this helpful tip.
