This week’s featured tool from JewelryTools.com is the Miniature Pocket Plier Set PLR-430.20.

About half the length of a normal jewelry plier, these little chain nose, round nose, and flat nose are the perfect tools to help you out when you’re on the go.

Need to make a bunch of headpins, S-links, or clasps? Cut the wire ahead of time and take with you. These pliers will easily fit in a child’s plastic pencil case. Next time you’ve got time to kill pull out your pencil case and voila – a batch of clasps ready to go!

(I bet they’d make great stocking-stuffers, too!)

    I use my mini-plier set constantly even though my primary form of jewelry making is bead weaving. Nothing better for opening stubborn jump rings quickly than the pointy nose and flat nose mini pliers. And the round nose provide the perfect tiny circle to start spirals. I store all three in an Altoids tin – perfect fit. When my current set wears out, I’ll buy my new set here.

    I’ve tried these, however, I’ve had two carpal tunnel surgeries on my right hand and the pliers hit at just the wrong spot and I can’t use them. Those who have repetitive strain injuries NEED to use full size pliers at all times to avoid irritating the injured area. My occupational therapist would have kittens if she ever saw these in my hands.

      I’m so glad you brought this up Caroline. I just went through surgery for carpel tunnel for my fingers called trigger finger release and there’s no way I could possibly use these small pliers. They look cute but for me too I need full sized pliers for the grip.

    Are these difficult to use? I have a similar set of pliers that I wanted to take along everywhere. I found that the shorter handles gave me poorer leverage and I couldn’t grip things tightly. I thought perhaps men’s hands would be strong enough, but mine aren’t. I know of another person who has struggled with some petite pliers, too.
