This gothic style bracelet is made with the traditional 4 in 1 chain maille weave. This is the weave that was used extensively throughout the Middle Ages for armor. This weave is strong and has a beautiful decorative pattern and it is a fabulous link to an ancient past.

Instructions

Step 1

Place 4 closed rings on an open ring and close the ring. Arrange the rings into 3 columns by splitting the 4 rings into the 2 outside columns and having the single ring as the inside column. For the following instructions the raised edge of the rings in the outside columns (1 and 3) is on the left side of the ring (red dots) and the inside column (2) has the raised edge of the ring on the right side (blue dot).

Step 2

To add a row take an open ring and go down into the bottom front ring in column 3 and up through the top front ring in column 1. Place 2 closed rings on the open ring and close the ring. Arrange the rings so that the new rings are split between columns 1 and 3 and the raised edge of the rings conforms to the pattern set out in step 2. If the end of your chain maille piece is flipping around you can hold the middle ring with some scrap wire.

Step 3

To add another row take an open ring and go down into the bottom front ring in column 3 and up through the top front ring in column 1. Place 2 closed rings on the open ring and close the ring. Arrange the rings as before.

Step 4

Continue to add rows until you have a piece of chain maille with 35 rings in both the outer columns.

Step 5

The 3 chain maille triangular shapes are added along the bottom edge of the chain maille. Starting at the left bottom edge leave 5 rings free and with an open ring go up into the 6th ring and out through the 7th and close the ring. Add another ring going up through the 7th ring and out through the 8th ring and close the ring. Add 2 more rings in the same way so you have a small row of 4 rings.

Step 6

Working on the row of 4 rings just added, take an open ring and go down into the 1st ring and continue going down into the center of the 2nd ring and close the ring. With another open ring go down into the center of the 2nd ring and continue down into the center of the 3rd ring and close the ring. The last ring goes into the 3rd and 4th rings. You now have a 2nd row with 3 rings.

Step 7

Working on the 3 rings just added. Take an open ring and go up through the 1st ring and out through the 2nd ring and close the ring. With an open ring go up through the 2nd ring and out through the 3rd ring and close the ring. You now have a small row of 2 rings.

Step 8

Take an open 20g 3/16" ring and go through one of the glass drop beads, take the ring down into the 1st ring and continue down through the 2nd ring and close the ring.

Step 9

To start the 2nd triangle shape leave 5 free rings along the bottom edge in between the end of the 1st triangle and the start of the 2nd triangle and complete the steps from 5 - 8. The 3rd triangle is added in the same way making sure to keep 5 free rings in between the end of the 2nd and the start of the 3rd.

Step 10

At one end of the bracelet take an open ring and go down into the bottom front ring in column 3 and up through the top front ring in column 1 add the clasp and close the ring.

Step 11

Close the large 18g ring and at the other end of the bracelet take an open ring and go down into the bottom front ring in column 3 and up through the top front ring in column 1 add the large 18g ring and close the ring.
