Instructions
Step 1
Begin with the 12 inch piece of 18 gauge square wire.
● From the center, make a v-bend with your flat chain
nose pliers
● Using the oval stepped mandrel, make an oval from
the V that is about 1 centimeter at its widest.
● Bend the 2 long posts back away from the oval at its
top-center and pinch gently.
● Form the long ends into the shape of your cabochons
● Bend the remainder of the long ends up and into the
center to form the posts for the bail.
● Gently hammer the frame to work-harden.

Step 2
Switch to the 8 inch piece of 18 gauge square wire.

● From the center, make a V fold with the flat chain
nose pliers.You want this angle to match the angle of
wire just above the oval on the base frame.
● Again, bend the ends to match the shape of your
cabochons.
● At the top center, bend the ends up and toward the
center, similar to the frame wire.
● Gently hammer the top frame to work-harden.

Step 3
Switch to the base frame and 26 gauge wrapping wire.

● Wrap the 26 gauge wire time around the bottom V of
the base frame oval to attach.
● Then, wrap appx. 10 times around each side of the
oval V.
● Thread one side of the wrapping wire through one of
your yellow beads.
● Thread the other side of the wrapping wire through
the other side of the bead.
● Have both wrapping wires behind the base frame.
*this will make your wrapping directions symmetrical.

Wrap both sides of the oval 10-15 more times,
approximating where the center of the next bead will land.
● Thread both sides of the wrapping wire through the
second bead.
● Push both wrapping ends to the back again.
● Wrap both sides of the rest of the oval, approx 10 times

Step 5
Measure and cut a piece of tape large enough to wrap
fully around your base frames and stones.
● Tape both stones to the bottom base frame. Make any
necessary adjustments to the base frame to ensure
that the frame will hug the stones.
● Place the top frame above the stones, with both of the
wrapping wires on the inside of the frame. Again,
make any necessary adjustments for fit.

Step 6
Get ready to do some weaving! In this step, it is best to
do both sides, simultaneously for stability and symmetry.

● Using the 2 wrapping wires, wrap 1 1⁄2 times around
the center of the top frame, one on each side to
secure. Bring both weaving wires to the back.
● Gently create space on the back frame and wrap 1 1⁄2
times around the base frame. Bring both weaving
wires back to the front.
*Note: I used my beading awl to make a small space
between the stone and the base frame.

Step 7
The next stitch on both sides will be in the center of the
tape mark on the top frame.
● Wrap 1 1⁄2 times around the top frame in the center of
the tape on both sides.
● Continue diagonally, down across the stone to the
back frame and wrap 1 1⁄2 times.
*Note: make sure each diagonal wrap is taught but not so
tight that it pushes the stone inward, away from the frame.
Make adjustments as needed.
● Continue back to the top frame in a diagonal,
wrapping 11⁄2 times, and again to the front frame.
The last stitch on the bottom of each wing should be on
the back, close to the tip of the stone.

Step 8
Continuing the figure 8, cross the back of the tip and under the
back base frame. You'll need to be gentle and hold your stitches
in place as you tighten this weave, or it will slip.
● Wrap weaving wire twice to secure.
● Mark the square wire where the top of the loops are on the
flat wire.
● The next stitch will cross the tape, so you'll need to begin
removing the tape before wrapping the next stitch.
● Wrap 11⁄2 times in the center of where the tape was and
again, diagonally to the opposing frame where the outside
edge of the tape would have been.
*Note: leave most of the tape attached to keep the stone secure
as you finish the frame.

Step 9
You can now fully remove the tape from one side only
and continue wrapping that side until that stone is fully
secure. Repeat the process and pattern with the other
wing.
● Continue to figure 8 wrap from frame to frame until
you come to the front-center frame post.
● Thread the wrapping wire under the frame near the
bottom V where you first attached the weaving wire to
the front frame.
● Wrap 11⁄2 times in the front-bottom center V.
● Wrap 11⁄2 times in the front-top.
REPEAT STEPS 8 & 9 with the other wing.

Step 10
If your wrapping wire is short at this step, like mine
was, wrap as much of the remainder in the next step and
add a new length of wire.
● Make a 90° V with the front frame posts.
● Wrap each post of the center frame 10-12 times with
the weaving wire.
● Repeat the same beading process as the other 2
beads, with one wire threading through the bead from
each direction.
● Wrap each post appx 10-15 more times depending on
the bead hole.
*Note: if your wrapping wires are short, this is where you
can trim & tuck the excess and add the new wrapping wire.

Step 11
To finish off the moth's head:
● Bend the 2 wrapped post wires around the curve of
the bead, with one post in front of the other, front to
back.
● Wrap both of the post wires together.
● Trim & tuck.

12.) Leave the antennas for last & switch to the bail.
● Attach the wrapping wire behind both bail posts.
● Wrap both posts together for approximately 1 inch.
*Note: do not trim the wrapping tails, you want these for
attaching the bail to the frame.
● Trim bail posts 1⁄2 inch from the top of the wrap.

Step 13
Separate the bail post ends.
● Using stepped mandrel pliers (or similar, curl both bail
end posts into loops ,away from the center of the bail.
● Use the stepped mandrel pliers to curl the bail down
and toward the center of the back of the pendant.
● Bend the bail loops away from the bail post, so they
will sit flat against the back of the pendant.
● Make any small adjustments so the bail loops are
mostly flush to the back.

Step 14
Attaching the bail loops to the frame. This can be
tricky, so be patient and use your tools to help you.
● Use the bail wrapping wire tails to secure the loops to
the frame.
● Wrap the bail loop 11⁄2 times.
● Go underneath the bail loop with the wrapping wire
and wrap around the bottom of the bail loop & frame.
● Trim & tuck
● Repeat with other side.

Step 15
15.) Finishing the antennas.
● Using flat chain nose pliers, bend the antennas up,
away from the wings.
● Trim antennas to about 1⁄2 inch.
● Using chain nose pliers (or similar), make small loops
at the top of each antenna. Make sure to close them
all the way or they'll be prone to catching on fabrics.
